One of the quiet privileges of island holidays is encountering wildlife in its natural setting. In Cyprus and Zakynthos, the waters in proximity to all three King Jason hotels are known to host sea turtles, and guests often discover these moments unexpectedly — while swimming, snorkelling, or floating calmly at shore.
In Zakynthos, the island is internationally recognized as an important nesting area for Caretta caretta (loggerhead turtles). Within a short drive from King Jason Zante, areas around Laganas Bay offer opportunities to see turtles in the water, especially near Marathonisi (Turtle Island) and along calmer stretches close to the shore. When conditions are right, swimmers may spot turtles moving slowly through the water, particularly during the warmer months.
In Protaras, turtle sightings are most commonly reported around Green Bay, just a few minutes’ drive from the King Jason Protaras. This small, sheltered bay is known for its clear, shallow waters and rocky seabed, which attract marine life. Turtles are often seen here during the swimming season, especially in the morning when the sea is calm. Konnos Bay, slightly further along the coast, is another area where turtles occasionally appear.
Not far from King Jason Paphos, turtles are most closely associated with the protected coastline of the Akamas Peninsula. Beaches such as Lara Bay and Toxeftra, around half an hour’s drive away, are known nesting areas and offer clear waters where turtles may be seen while swimming or snorkelling. Sightings also occur along quieter coastal stretches closer to town, depending on conditions and season.
These encounters are never staged or guaranteed — and that is part of their value. Swimming with turtles happens quietly, without crowds or disturbance, and always with respect for the animals and their environment. For many guests, these moments become lasting memories, adding a gentle connection to nature during an already unhurried stay.
Being close to the sea means being open to what it offers. Sometimes, it offers something truly special.
